Fabulous Find For A Friday----A Historical House

This week we decided to buy a house.

Don't ask me why.

Maybe it was the fact that we are sick of renting.

Maybe it was the fact that this house has been on the market for almost a year.

Maybe it was the sunshine.

Maybe it was the fact that we love old houses and this one needed someone to love it.

Well, we went to see it on Sunday, then made an offer on Monday. We got the answer on Monday night, and went back in to try and work with the seller on Tuesday. By Wednesday, we were still trying to work something out between the seller and the mortgage company.

By Thursday night, we realized that it wasn't going to work. The seller wants to see if he can get something better right around the corner.

Its a Fabulous House! Especially if you like "history houses" (my son's very words) like we do.

This one is chock full of history. Built in 1716. A minister who was a Tory supporter lived there with his family, and when the Patiots came and tried to get him out, he was shot at.

The bullet holes are still right inside the entryway. The original door, however, is in a museum.
Well, you can't have everything.

In about 1880 they moved the house to its original location, therefore the foundation is in good condition, being so new and all...

If you want to see more of it, check it out here. Go on the website and click on Littleton. It is listed for $315,000. It is pretty cool, especially if you are into that kind of thing.

But......it.....wasn't......meant......to......be......

Maybe he won't sell it and come begging us on hand and knee at the end of the summer to buy it.

Wouldn't that be the most glorious day ever?

Meanwhile, my son is quite disappointed. "What are we going to do now, Mom," he said. "We HAVE to live in a historical house---where will be find one now?"

Where indeed----in this world where most people are looking for a specific granite countertop in the house that they buy, and how big the spa tub is----where indeed.

The Historical house on King St.

The plaque by the front door.

Just inside the entryway---if you look really close you can see two of the bullet holes on the left side...

The dining room---very spacious for all my dinners.

The Master Bedroom---original beams throughout....sigh.....

Gorgeous! I can't believe someone was dumb enough not to take any offer in this economy! He'll come crawling back, mark my words.

What can I say. I'm sorry. I'll tell you all the bad things. Little windows which mean little light which means winter depression which means...

A...that's all I can think of.

Sorry.

Maybe you are meant to move closer to the grandbabies.

Maybe not.

Sorry. Did I say that already?

Sorry.

OH MY GOSH!! I'm in love with that house!!

So sorry it didn't work out because that place is amazing. I hope your wishes come true and the seller comes looking for you by the end of the summer.

P.S. My dream is to buy a historical home and I also hope to move to the Boston area sometime in the next few years. If you happen to see a historical home that can fit a family of six, let me know! :)

I'm crying for you. I only wish we could live in a beautiful house like that. Our house is fine. For us. Right now. But I've always dreamed of living in a dream house like that!

Wow that house really is gorgeous....here's hoping it's not sold and he DOES come grovelling back to you guys :) Even the price is good - especially for Mass!

Actually, Lynne, the windows are big and there are lots of them and lots of light, so no help soothing me with that one...

Alyson, there are lots of houses in my area that are historic and big enough for all of you! So, come be my neighbor, K?

And Jenny and Joanna----I'll keep praying that he comes crawling back...

It would be amazing to live in a piece of history. I wish I could do it, but my imagination would just run too wild.

It looks like it's in beautiful shape and the yard looks lovely, too. I hope there is something even better around the corner for you.

LOVE the table in the dining room. What character in that house! I bought me dream house 5 years ago... a 1835 brick schoolhouse! I saw it and made an offer to the lady before I left. She made me wait until my husband could see it, but he was away on business in Boston... so I made him drive home just to see it that night! We signed the papers within days... brick schoolhouse, 6' windows, clawfoot tub in master bath... ahhh now that you've reminded me how great it is, I must blog about it. Hope you don't mind if I steal your idea?

I'd LOVE to come be your neighbor! Do you have a great ward? We're planning on selling our house in CT in about 2 1/2 yrs and moving to the greater Boston area at that point.

Are...you...kidding...me...with...that...house...right now. WHA!!?! It's perfect!! I can't get over the floors and the history and the BEAMS! Oh, those glorious, original beams. I'm a sucker for old homes, I LOVE them. I so hope that something magical happens and that you end up with this gem. You could make it simply marvy, I have no doubt. Oooh, keep me posted!

You realize that if you end up with this house that I have to come visit you in it, right? Right.

That place is TO DIE FOR. As you know if you've seen my header, I love old houses. Ours is a baby compared to this one (1895). I love the antique feel to everything: the floors, the beams, the garden...wow! And you never know if it's meant to be this early on. We lost our house to another bidder when it was for sale. then six weeks later, things fell through and they called us. And in this economy...the owner might get more desperate soon. I hope you get it!!!

Wow! What a gorgeous place. It definitely seems like it should be yours! We'll keep our fingers crossed too.

Just for fun, I know someone who grew up there in Townsend. Is that where you guys want to live? It's a gorgeous little town.
