I Learned Something New

While I was on another one of my whirlwind insanely idiotic trips where everything went wrong with the airlines, I happened on a new word. I found this interesting, as I usually know most words or have read them at one time or another.

The word is synecdoche----pronounced sin-eck-de-kee.

"A figure of speech in which a part is used to represent the whole, the whole for a part, the specific for the general, the general for the specific or the material for the thing made from it."

Cool, huh?

And....what does that mean....really....some examples?

Well, you know how we say "Better watch out for the law!" What we mean is watch out for the police. What about if we say "That guy is a big mouth" What we mean is that the guy talks alot.

Get it?

Got it?

Good.

Hold the "press"! Where is my new "set of wheels"?

Guess you will have to use your "head" to figure it out.

Neat word. All the words are pretty fine, actually. But am sorry to hear you had an insanely idiotic trips. Could it be worse than the last one? Surely that is not possible.

If someone were to stay at my house I'd have to clean for a week. Glad I'm not running a contest.

Glad you are home safe and sound and THAT YOU WILL BLOG OFTEN. Subtle, aren't I?
